The Bad
Most people or writers like to start off with good news, that way it lessens the blow of the bad news. Ive never felt starting with good is the way to go. I would rather start with something negative and then wrap it all up with something positive.
I've had my xbox kinect for about a month now so I have had plenty of time to test this bad boy out. Everything started off great.I was taken back by the power of the system that sat before me. But then I started to notice a few things that if I had been told before hand, I may have second guessed the purchase. It would have been nice to know of these issues up front so I could have better prepared for them.
The most upsetting issue with the xbox kinect was the area that was required to play.In order for the sensor to detect you properly, you need a 6x6 area to play in. If you have a big house than you needn't worry, but if you have an apartment or dorm room than its a big deal. I have to move everything out of my family room in order to play.After the first time this gets really annoying.
The games are more of a demo than a game which is the second issue that I have with the system.Your Xbox Kinectwill come with one game which is 'Kinect Adventures.' You look for new adventures all around the world. In kinect adventures there are only 5 adventures for you to play. This game is alot of fun to play but the problem is it leaves you wanting more. Only there is no more.
I got Kinectimals for my son which he has enjoyed. This game allows you to use voice commands, you also get to teach your pet tricks and run it through an obstacle course. You get to choose between a tiger cub, lion, leopard, black panther and a cheetah.You can teach your cub new tricks using voice commands or just have some free time to bond. TAt first my son was very entertained with this game but that didnt last very long.
The placement of the xbox kinect was also a very big inconvenience.If your lucky and have a big house with a lot of room and an entertainment center than you have nothing to worry about. I do not have that luxury though. The kinect will have issues tracking you if you place it on the floor or on top of the tv. I purchased a shelf for it to sit on from the hardware store. Like I said this one isn't a huge deal but when you're initially setting it up, it will drive you a little crazy.
The Good
You will really enjoy the xbox kinect as long as these issues dont bother you. The Xbox Kinect is an amazing system. With time the xbox kinect will become more responsive and more advanced than any other gaming system.There's only one way to go from here and that's up.
Microsoft is always upgarding and making new games. As we continue on they will only get better.I don't know if they will ever enter the world of a first person shooter but at the same time this system is not targeted at the hard core gamer. It is more for families and kids. I do enjoy playing with my son but I also enjoy jumping online and playing some halo.
